Tinypop is the video walkie-talkie

There are so many social media and video apps out there now, it’s hard to know which is best. Some serve up feature length videos, like YouTube, while others like Skype focus on phone-style conversations. However, if the likes of Twitter have proven anything, it’s that some people just want quick chat. Tinypop is a free app which does this with videos, keeping them super short and fun.

Short, fun video messages

Tinypop is described as the ‘video walkie-talkie’ because, like those old hand radios, you can pass quick messages back and forth. Despite using video, the idea is to send and receive short bursts, just for quick, simple fun. You hold a blue button to record, then let go and send. These tiny videos transfer very fast because the file size is kept small. New features are being added too, such as Facebook integration, including friend list syncing. The interface is bright and simple and includes optional text messaging. However, the scope of this app is limited and some will just use it a few times as a gimmick.

Something different for your friends

Tinypop’s main value is that it’s different. The little videos are fun and quick to send, so you can have a lot of fun with friends this way. The idea probably doesn’t have long-term potential, but that might depend on the creativity of the user.

PROS

  • Send short video clips for fun
  • Text options as a backup

CONS

  • Doesn’t really do anything else
  • App is still new and ironing out bugs
